Black Hat

Somewhere out there is a timeline where the DumbCMO took the agency money. He grew a goatee and bought an actual black hat. He calls sometimes, to pitch.

“Rules are for people with patience. I’ve got a bleep quota.”

Evil CMO. Same man, worse choices. Every pitch here is his, and the answer under it is ours.

  1. Keyword stuffing

“Say “best dentist Pune” forty times on the page. Google can count, can’t it?”

Cramming the same search phrase into a page over and over, sometimes in white text on a white background.

  2. Private link networks

“I own two hundred blogs. They all link to you. Nobody needs to know they’re all mine.”

A ring of throwaway websites run by one person, built only to point links at paying clients.

  3. Cloaking

“Show Google one page and show customers another. Everyone gets what they want.”

Serving search engines a different page from the one real visitors see.

  4. Doorway pages

“One page per city. Same words, swap the name. Five hundred pages by lunch.”

Hundreds of near-identical pages made only to catch searches, all funnelling to the same place.

  5. Mass-produced junk content

“Robot writes a thousand posts a day. Quantity is a quality all its own.”

Pumping out pages by the thousand, copied, spun or auto-written, with nobody checking if they help anyone.

  6. Bought likes and follows

“Fifty thousand followers by Friday. Nobody checks if they’re real.”

Paying for followers, likes or comments from bot accounts or click farms.

  7. Review gating

“Only send the review link to happy customers. The grumpy ones get a feedback form.”

Filtering who gets asked for a review so only good ones go public.
