# Meta’s AI can now edit your ads. If it gets something wrong, it’s on you.

> **TL;DR:** Meta’s new terms make advertisers solely responsible for whatever its AI tools change in their ads. Due 30 October, now 20 November. From 28 October it plans to switch on product browsing in existing ads unless you opt out. Check your AI settings now.

Imagine you hire a helper for your shop. He’s quick and cheerful, and he rewrites your price tags when you’re not looking, to “improve sales”. One day he writes “guaranteed to cure back pain” on a $20 cushion. A customer complains. The helper shrugs. The shop’s name is on the tag.

That, roughly, is what changes for Facebook and Instagram advertisers over the next few weeks.

## In normal-people words

Meta, which runs Facebook and Instagram ads, has AI tools that can change your ads automatically: rewrite text, crop or expand images, add music, try new versions. Some are switched on by default.

Two changes are coming, according to reporting by PPC Land and Search Engine Journal:

- **28 October 2026:** Meta plans to switch on “product browsing” in existing ads, letting people browse more of your products from an ad, unless you opt out. Meta told advertisers this lifted conversions by about 3% in a test.
- **20 November 2026 (first reported as 30 October):** Meta’s updated commercial terms say advertisers are **solely responsible for whatever Meta’s AI features create or change in their ads**, including features Meta switches on itself.

> **The DumbCMO:** So the robot writes it, and you sign it. Read your ads before Meta’s AI promises something you can’t d#mn deliver.

## What it means for a small business

**Your ads once the new terms start**

- **If** You run ads with AI enhancements switched on **→ then** Every version Meta makes is your ad, legally and with customers. Review them.
- **If** You sell anything health, money or kids related **→ then** Be extra careful. An AI-added claim like “clinically proven” or “guaranteed returns” can break ad rules or the law.
- **If** You turn the AI options off **→ then** Your ads show exactly what you wrote. Slightly less automation, much less risk.

## The timeline

**Meta ad changes, October 2026**

1. **6–21 Aug: Meta tests product browsing.** Across about 117,700 advertisers, Meta reports around 3% more conversions.
2. **28 Oct: Product browsing switches on.** Added to existing ads unless you opt out.
3. **20 Nov: New terms take effect.** Moved from 30 October. Advertisers solely responsible for AI-made changes.

## The chai stall version

Your chai stall has a new helper who repaints the menu board every night to “test what sells”. Most nights it’s fine. One night he writes “sugar-free” on the regular chai.

**You don’t have to fire the helper. You just have to read the board every morning.**

## Do this today

- [ ] Open Meta Ads Manager and look at each live ad’s creative settings. Note which AI enhancements are on.
- [ ] Turn off any enhancement you haven’t reviewed, especially text changes.
- [ ] Decide whether you want product browsing on your existing ads, and opt out before 28 October if not.
- [ ] Once a week, preview your ads the way customers see them.

## Not-so-frequently asked questions

### Do I have to stop using Meta’s AI features?

No. Some of them genuinely help. Just treat them like a new employee: useful, but checked.

### Does this affect boosted posts too?

Boosts run through the same ads system, so check the settings there too.

### Is Meta allowed to do this?

It’s in their terms, which you accept to advertise. That’s why it matters to read the summary even if you never read the full terms.

### Where’s the official announcement?

As of mid-October, coverage was based on advertiser notices and the updated terms, not a newsroom post. Check Meta’s Business Help Center for updates.

## Things your agency won’t say

- “Advantage+ handles everything” now also means “Advantage+ can say things you have to answer for”.
- A 3% lift in a Meta test is Meta’s number, on Meta’s terms. Test it on your own ads before trusting it.
- Reading your own ads once a week is free and takes ten minutes.

## Jargon Jail

**Locked up: “Advantage+ creative”**

Meta’s name for the AI tools that tweak your ads automatically. **It means Meta can change your pictures and words to try to get more clicks.** Helpful sometimes. Yours to check always.
