# Meta’s brand formats: Super Burst, First Impression, Reels Trending

> **TL;DR:** Meta’s Brand Summit (15 Oct) pushed Ads Super Burst, First Impression Ads (US test), and broader Reels Trending Ads. Today (28 Oct) product browsing turns on in existing ads unless you opted out. Here’s the plain-words tour with a doodle for each format.

[Notebook](https://dumbcmo.com) › [Blog](https://dumbcmo.com/blog) › Paying to be seen › Meta’s brand formats: Super Burst, First Impression, Reels Trending

Meta spent mid-October talking about brand ads like a magazine that finally remembered the cover story. Three formats got the spotlight at the [Brand Building Summit](https://www.facebook.com/business/news/meta-brand-building-summit-2026): Ads Super Burst, First Impression Ads, and Reels Trending Ads.

Then, as if that were not enough chaos for one month, 28 October flips product browsing on for a pile of existing ads. Same Ads Manager. Different headaches.

This note leads with the three brand formats (with a quick doodle of what each one does), then the defaults you should click today.

## In normal-people words

## The three formats Meta wants you to remember

Meta’s Brand Building Summit post (15 October 2026) put these front and centre. Small shops will not use all three tomorrow. You still need the names, because agencies and dashboards will.

### Ads Super Burst

A short, reserved reach window — Meta talks about **3 to 24 hours** — planned in Reach Planner, with optional category exclusivity so a rival in your category is less likely to sit next to you. Meta says Super Burst is moving to general availability in phases this month. The test numbers Meta likes to quote (median **2.9-point** ad recall lift, about **34 million** people reached per flight) are Meta’s own. Treat them as a brochure, not your P&L.

Useful if you have a real launch day and a budget that can buy a burst. Not useful if you are still learning where the Boost button is.

*[Animation: super-burst]*

### First Impression Ads

An early **United States** test: be the **first Feed ad** someone sees that day — and Meta says **one brand per day** in that slot. Scarce on purpose. If it is not in your account yet, you are not behind; you are not in the test. When it shows up with a price, ask whether “first” is worth more than “good” for your product.

*[Animation: first-impression]*

### Reels Trending Ads

Ads tied to always-on Reels topics. Meta expanded the list to **15** topics, including Home & Garden and Spanish-language. Custom audience exclusions are promised “later this year.” If your creative already looks like the topic people are watching, this is a placement story. If your creative is a static catalogue dump, fix the creative first.

**Also from the same Summit, quieter:** Aggregated View Time (Optimising for total time with your brand across a week) is in alpha. Ignore until it has a setting you can see.

> **The DumbCMO:** Three shiny formats. Three doodles. Still check the boring toggles before you buy a “first impression.”

## What else flipped in October (including today)

## In normal-people words

**1. Product browsing on existing ads (28 October 2026).**
Meta told advertisers that from this date it would add product browsing to ads that are already running. When someone taps your ad, they **may** first see an in-app page with product info and personalised suggestions, before (or instead of going straight to) your website. The feature already existed under Advantage+ creative / Destination settings. What changed is the **default for existing ads**: off → on, unless you opted out.

Meta’s notice claimed about **3% more conversions** in a 6–21 August 2026 test across roughly 117,700 advertisers. It did not define the conversion event, cost, or ROAS. As of mid-October, trade coverage rested on the advertiser notice more than a clear Help Center explainer.

**2. Advertising Week tools (6 October 2026).**
From Meta’s [Advertising Week New York post](https://www.facebook.com/business/news/advertising-week-new-york-2026):

- Ads Creative Studio (A workspace that shows which creatives are working and why) is rolling out more broadly.
- Customer Lifecycle Strategy (A sales-campaign setting that prioritises new customers) is available to all advertisers (clean customer lists help).
- Generating **video from static images** inside Advantage+ creative is generally available. Catalogue product-video generation is still in beta for eligible advertisers.
- The Meta AI business assistant gets deeper memory and creative insights. **Agentic** actions (plan a campaign, change budget by chat) are in test — not “the AI runs your account alone.”
- AI audience discovery in Detailed Targeting is planned later in 2026.
- Conversational checkout tests (Shopify on Messenger; Adyen, PayPal, Shopify, Stripe in Meta AI) are early / limited.

**3. Audience per creative (19 October 2026).**
“Choose an audience for each ad creative” for Marketing API partners ([developers blog](https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2026/10/19/choose-an-audience-for-each-ad-creative/)): age range and gender per piece of media inside one ad set. Catch: the ad set must stay broad, and it cannot combine with Advantage+ audience.

**4. Creative Breakdown reporting.**
Ads Manager can break results down by individual media assets and by text variations ([Meta Help](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1822387965412520)). Collection / carousel ads and some conversion types are excluded.

**5. Marketing API clean-up (27 October 2026).**
[Marketing API v26.0](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/ads-commerce/marketing-api/marketing-api-changelog/version26.0) removals apply to all versions from this date: poll ads gone, `web_only` app-link treatment deprecated, and more. Instagram Explore Feed placement was already dropped in v26.

**6. On-device Pixel measurement (from 12 November 2026).**
Measure conversions on customer devices (A Pixel setting that matches some purchases on the shopper’s device) is on by default for eligible datasets, not active for people in the EU and UK. Reported conversions may rise without shop sales rising — reconcile to your own orders.

**Already covered on DumbCMO (read those, don’t re-read a rewrite here):**

- AI edits and who is liable → [Meta’s AI can now edit your ads](/blog/meta-ai-ad-edits-your-responsibility)
- Crawl / bot clause and the 20 November date → [Meta wants to crawl your website](/blog/meta-crawling-terms-delayed)

## What it means for a small business

**What it means for you**

- **If** You have a launch day and a real awareness budget **→ then** Watch for Ads Super Burst in Reach Planner. One short flight beats a vague “brand campaign” with no date.
- **If** You are outside the US, or First Impression Ads is missing from your account **→ then** Skip the FOMO. It is an early US test, one brand per day. Come back when you see a clear price.
- **If** Your Reels already match a trending topic people watch **→ then** Look at Reels Trending Ads topics (now fifteen, including Home & Garden and Spanish-language) before you invent a new funnel name.
- **If** You sell products with a catalogue or Shopify store **→ then** Product browsing can change what happens after a tap. Open live ads today and confirm Destination / Advantage+ creative matches what you want.
- **If** You care about new customers, not retargeting the same buyers **→ then** Try Customer Lifecycle Strategy on one Sales campaign with a clean customer list uploaded first.
- **If** You only have static images and Reels placements eat your budget **→ then** Generate a couple of image-to-video variants, watch them yourself, then test. You still own whatever Meta’s AI produces — see the [AI edits note](/blog/meta-ai-ad-edits-your-responsibility).
- **If** You use a third-party tool or scripts to publish ads **→ then** Ask which Marketing API version they call. 27 October removals break old poll creatives and some app-link settings.

## The timeline

**Meta ads, October into early November 2026**

1. **6 Oct: Advertising Week tools.** Creative Studio rollout, Customer Lifecycle for all, image-to-video GA, assistant upgrades in test.
2. **15 Oct: Brand Summit.** Super Burst phased GA, First Impression Ads (US test), Reels Trending topics expanded to 15.
3. **~14–18 Oct: Notices land.** Advertisers get product-browsing notices; on-device Pixel notices also circulate.
4. **19 Oct: Per-creative audiences.** Per-creative age/gender for Marketing API partners.
5. **27 Oct: API cutovers + creative Breakdown.** Marketing API v26 removals hit every version; creative Breakdown covered in trade press.
6. **28 Oct: Product browsing.** Product browsing default for existing ads (today).
7. **12 Nov: On-device Pixel measurement.** On-device conversion measurement begins (opt out in Events Manager if you do not want it).
8. **20 Nov: Updated commercial terms.** Updated commercial / self-serve terms (AI liability + crawl clause). Details in the [AI](/blog/meta-ai-ad-edits-your-responsibility) and [crawl](/blog/meta-crawling-terms-delayed) notes.

## The chai stall version

Your stall already has a helper who rearranges the sweets tray “to sell more.” Fine. But if he starts pouring chai for customers **inside his cousin’s shop** before they reach your counter, you should know about it before the festival rush.

Product browsing is that cousin’s shop. Super Burst is renting the loudest corner for one evening. First Impression is paying to be the first face at the door — if they even offer you the slot.

Useful for some. Surprising for others. Your call.

## Do this today

- [ ] Open every ad account’s notifications. Find the product browsing notice. If you did not want it, use the opt-out if it is still there, or turn product browsing off under Advantage+ creative / Destination on each live ad.
- [ ] Skim Meta’s Brand Summit names: Super Burst, First Impression Ads, Reels Trending. Note which (if any) appear in your account or Reach Planner — ignore the rest for now.
- [ ] Annotate your reports for 28 October 2026 so any jump in “conversions” can be traced to the default change, not magic.
- [ ] In Ads Manager, open Breakdown → Creative → Media on your top spend ads. Kill weak images or videos.
- [ ] Connect or refresh a customer list and test Customer Lifecycle Strategy on one acquisition campaign.
- [ ] In Events Manager → your Pixel → Settings, note whether “Measure conversions on customer devices” is on. Export Meta-attributed sales vs real orders for a baseline before 12 November.
- [ ] Skim the [AI edits](/blog/meta-ai-ad-edits-your-responsibility) and [crawl terms](/blog/meta-crawling-terms-delayed) notes so the 20 November terms are not a surprise.

## Not-so-frequently asked questions

### Are the doodles official Meta art?

No. They are DumbCMO notebook sketches of what each format *does*. Meta’s Brand Summit post is still the primary source for the product names and claims.

### Do Super Burst or First Impression Ads matter for a small shop?

Usually not yet. Super Burst is a short, reserved awareness burst — useful for a launch if it appears in your Reach Planner and you have the budget. First Impression Ads are an early US test for one brand per day. Most small businesses should ignore both until they show up in your account with a clear price.

### Is product browsing definitely on for my account today?

Meta’s notice said existing ads from 28 October 2026. It did not clearly say which objectives, countries, or brand-new ads are covered. Open Ads Manager and check the Destination / Advantage+ creative toggles on a few live ads rather than assuming.

### Should I trust the 3% conversion lift?

It is Meta’s number from Meta’s August test. The notice did not define the conversion metric or what happened to cost. Test on your own orders before you celebrate.

### Is the Meta AI assistant running my campaigns by itself now?

No. Meta says agentic actions (create campaigns, change budgets in chat) are beginning to be tested, with previews and approvals. Memory and creative insights are further along. Do not fire your media buyer based on a headline.

### Where do Instagram ads fit in all this?

Same Ads Manager. Creative and destination defaults hit Instagram placements too. For the organic Instagram product news (Features, Series, TV), see the separate October Instagram note. For platform choice, read [Instagram ads or Google ads?](/blog/instagram-ads-or-google-ads).

## Things your agency won’t say

- “We’ll monitor Meta’s updates” often means nobody opened the notice until performance dipped.
- A default Meta turns on in October is not a strategy. It is Meta’s strategy.
- If your agency cannot show you the product-browsing toggle on a live ad in thirty seconds, they are not watching the account — they are watching the retainer. Calling that “full management” is d#mn cute.

## Jargon Jail

**Locked up: “Advantage+ creative”**

Meta’s bundle of automatic creative enhancements — including things like product browsing and AI tweaks to media and text. Helpful when you chose them. Stressful when Meta chooses them for you. Always check which ones are on.
